Although the Mage's article mentions dark-aligned wizards, it seems to me that the only NPC we have that's explicitly to do with darkness, night, etc, is Mori - and by extension Maleria - with her talk of darkness and evil. By contrast, Mori is all about lightness and good. Maybe we could have a character/NPC which embodies the good parts of the night and darkness? Night can be soothing, beautiful, and comforting. A time for rest, thinking, and enjoyment. Darkness is scary but also sometimes safe. Good things can be dark or black, too. By the same token, maybe an evil light-aligned character/NPC? Like harsh light, unforgiving and 'pure'. Cold. Sterile. Empty.
I could say I have some deeper thinking behind this, but I really just like night/dark aesthetics and I'm sick of them being default evil all the time. Call me Nightmare Moon and so sue me. /jk
would be kinda nice but not sure they'd go for it unless maybe its Abetus related? space darkness?
Technically, we do have which indicates there is a non-evil goddess of night/space, but I can certainly see that being less than satisfying. I'd be happy to support a good dark-themed NPC, but the real trick is in figuring out how/where they would fit in, and what purpose they would serve.
@ Dannica 👀 Hidden challengers/lore-expanding Subetapedia entries on Subeta's various deities? Imean, Shinwa and Maleria are cool and all, but Subeta has other deities and they deserve a bit of time to shine too.
There are more shrines out there besides Apollonia's!
The shrines had art of the deities, but I don't remember for what purpose. Googled and found a few images! Apollonia Azagga Wokam Nukum :'( Poor Porin has no image!
tl;dr - support. I'm always a sucker for more tastytasty lore.
[edit]HMM! How about adding them to the origins of various pet colours? Merana gives her "blessing" to our pets, Maleria brainwashes them with darkmatter. I think the other gods and goddesses on Subeta had at something to do with a few of the pet colours. That would be a nice opportunity to expand lore and add a good dark-themed npc. Judging by the art, Apollonia most likely blessed us with galactic pets. ?
I support, i wanna know more about the deities that are in the world, and having a good darkness deity would be nice. Besides, the light is good/dark is evil has always had some.... unfortunate implications, as many people have pointed out before me.
Maybe they could do something with Kuwabara and Yumiko at the Secluded Shrine. I always thought it was weird they took the time to design two brand new NPCs without giving them any kind of backstory or significance, and never mentioned them again.

Apparently it's been almost four years since these two showed up. I'll bet most people have forgotten they even exist.

I'm hopping aboard the Night/Darkness Postivity Train! Maybe a night goddess with a starry design or clothing or a demonic looking Paladin.
Have a nice day! I suggested robotic antennae, thoughts? ">https://subeta.net/forums.php/read/898942/Robotic-Antennae/1/ Follow this link to give input on a better Icy Goods! https://subeta.net/forums.php/read/898963
Hell yes, full support on having a dark magic user who isn't just some take-over-the-world & destroy-the-universe jerk! ;) (& also +1 for some rule-bound, dogmatic, & capricious light-based horrorshow character too~)
I was completely wrong in thinking that The Element Mage was a good dark magic user, but apparently he does both because he's special. And, because he knows how to use dark magic and combat it: "He is an invaluable ally to the Oracle, Shinwa and any others champions of goodness and white magic." gross.
Elwood could be. Dude managed to port his van up the side of a mountain during the last islander plot, after all! But, that might also just be Elwood being Elwood; zero magic involved. All we get is: "Rumors suggest he may be allied with Maleria due to the dark matter that floats around his gloves." eh.
I'd also enjoy the old gods of subeta lore, that are mentioned in the Shrines, getting a little love. Surely they weren't all destroyed when the whole Oracle, Shinwa, Malaria nonsense happened?
& as something still kind of related to this, does anyone else remember the trivia question about "who caused Merana to be cursed/a seamonster?" and the answer was goddamn HER and NOT Shinwa because Shinwa just 'reflected' her magic back?!? Like, what the hell was that? Light magic users can do no wrong on subeta, apparently. :p
Lastly, while we're on the topic of good dark characters, there's a mobile game called Dragalia Lost, which has done an excellent job of not making their dark magic users evil. They're just people (or dragons. ha.). And there's a story in the game I'd love to link, but I can't find a wiki that has it. :/ Found it:
Zodiark (Dragalia Lost Spoilers!)
There is none among the great dragons more kind of heart than Zodiark the Shadowwyrm — yet he is abhorred and called evil by some humans.
His scales once glittered like black agate, but their beauty has long since rotted away. Such is the reward for his tenderness.
Long ago, there was a land ruled by a kind queen. She was revered for her virtue and governed her people well, but an invasion of fiends (*evil monsters) put her country's very existence in danger.
She asked aid from the Shadowwyrm, who dwelt at the very edge of her domain. "Beautiful Shadowwyrm, my country needs your protection. Tell me what I must pay to receive it."
"Nothing," replied the Shadowwyrm.
The queen was shocked, for she had been prepared to sacrifice herself if it was required of her.
"You are in trouble. If you require my aid, then I shall do all in my power to help you."
With his help, their victory over the fiends was total. The queen, however, quickly grew corrupt after gaining the Shadowwyrm's promise of eternal protection.
She hid behind the dragon's strength, and used it to bend her subjects and neighbors to her will. Finally, the people tired of this, rebelled against her, and stormed the palace.
Realizing her foolishness, the queen turned on the Shadowwyrm. "You tempted me down this path!" she cried. The bewildered dragon could only stare at her.
"Oh, but you have," she continued. "You twisted my heart. You gave me all of your power and never asked that I bear any of its consequences!"
"Curse your unselfish love!" screamed the queen, who then flung herself off the balcony.
After the queen's death, the Shadowwyrm encountered many rulers. Few could wake themselves from the stupor the dragon's power induced, and many were ruined.
When a country is ruined, so, too, are its people. Eventually, those who had never even seen the Shadowwyrm grew to loathe the very mention of his name.
Pt2
Darkness turns nothing away. Any who borrow its power must eventually fight against their own weakness, and that is no easy task.
Humans came to revile the Shadowwyrm that threw the world into chaos. Dragons are not physical creatures so much as spiritual, and the humans' hatred corroded him.
The terrible sight of him—and his horrific shrieks of agony—terrified the humans, to whom he was already known as an enemy.
"The humans despise me," thought the Shadowwyrm through a haze of pain. "I am perishing under their wrath and hate."
"Yet I cannot bring myself to hate them—indeed, I ADORE them. Is that truly so wrong?"
The Shadowwyrm had many virtues, perhaps none more resplendent than his unselfish love. Such mastery only underscored the imperfections in humanity's own love.
A man approached the Shadowwyrm as he lay in a cave, wracked with pain. "Stay back..." growled the dragon in a weak voice.
"I will only cause you unhappiness. In any case, I cannot give you what you wish. Humanity's hatred has eroded my soul; I do not even have strength enough to fight my pain."
The man gently stroked one of the dragon's blistered scales. "Then let me ease your suffering. As you have cared for so many of my kind, let me now care for you."
For all the humans the Shadowwyrm had saved, this was the first one to try and save him.
Thus began a friendship between Aurelius and Zodiark that tore down the boundaries between human and dragonkind.
from this wiki & I'm not saying to just copy it, but it was super refreshing to see darkness (especially the most powerful dark magic dragon) aligned with love, instead of just killing, for a change. ❤️
